Guest Speaker: Dr. Judy Segal
Topic: In 2015, the FDA approved flibanserin (Addyi) for the treatment of “Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder” (the DSM diagnosis has since been replaced) in premenopausal women. Prior to the approval, the FDA had held a Patient-focused Drug Development Public Meeting to address the “unmet need” for a pharmaceutical to treat that condition. This talk will offer Dr. Segal’s first-hand account of persuasive strategies used in that meeting and the associated web campaign Even the Score. The goals of Even the Score were to generate demand for a sex drug for women and to convince the FDA that not green-lighting such a drug was evidence of sexism.
