NYT: Testing What We Think We Know

In an Op-Ed piece published in the Opinion pages of the New York Times on August 19, 2012, H. Gilbert Welch, a professor of medicine at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice and co-author of “Overdiagnosed: Making People Sick in the Pursuit of Health” exposes the truth that for a large part of medical practice, we don’t know what works. But we pay for it anyway. He proposes ways to increase the type of research that the Therapeutics Initiative has been doing for almost two decades.
