TITLE: A Practical Introduction to Propensity Score Analysis using R

SPEAKER: Ehsan Karim, Assistant Professor at the UBC School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) and Scientist at the Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences (CHÉOS).

MATERIALS: Go to this link: https://ehsanx.github.io/SARGC-TIMethods/ to download the slides, see the list of software requirements, obtain the link to the github page for this talk, etc.

This presentation was offered in collaboration with the Student and Recent Graduate Committee (SARGC) of the Statistical Society of Canada.

About the topic: Propensity score-based methods are widely used in analyzing observational datasets to reduce the impact of confounding due to observed covariates.  This Webinar will provide a basic overview of popular Propensity Score approaches, analysis steps explained in R, best practices, and reporting guidelines. The prerequisites are knowledge of multiple regression analysis, and working knowledge of R. Background in propensity score analysis or causal inference is not required.

About the speaker: Dr. M. Ehsan Karim is an Assistant Professor at the UBC School of Population and Public Health, and a Scientist at the Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences (CHÉOS), St. Paul’s Hospital. He obtained his Ph.D. in Statistics from UBC, completed his postgraduate training in the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Occupational Health at McGill, and was also a trainee at the Canadian Network for Observational Drug Effect Studies (CNODES). His current research interests include causal inference and data science approaches, and his research is supported by the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Scholar award, grants from NSERC and BC SUPPORT Unit.
