TITLE: Disseminating Academic Outputs
SPEAKERS: Michael Johnny, Manager, York University’s Knowledge Mobilization Unit. Krista Jensen, Knowledge Mobilization Officer, York University.
About the topic: The objective of this talk is to create awareness around these dissemination approaches York University employs to support knowledge mobilization. Knowledge Translation (KT) or Knowledge Mobilization (KMb) has seen significant growth in the past decade. Research granting councils are asking for detailed KT/KMb planning and disseminating research outputs is an important component to this growth. Two knowledge mobilization professionals from York University will lead a talk sharing their experiences in supporting researchers and their partners in developing and implementing tailored plans. We will share four solutions we have employed, all of which operating within a broader strategy or framework to help maximize the impact of research. We will share information on:
- Research Snapshots – lay summaries of traditional academic research outputs
- Layering – an approach to communications which sees diverse outputs created within a strategic framework
- Social Media – effectively used, this is an effective tool to disseminate and actively engage non-academic stakeholders.
- Facilitated Uptake – events or workshops can help move dissemination to important places of uptake, and in time, implementation.
