Methods for the development of trustworthy and rigorous clinical practice guidelines have advanced considerably over the past two decades. Recent methodological innovations have brought in a new era for guidelines, facilitating production of rapid and living guidelines to address current challenges. The objectives of this presentation are to highlight those methodological innovations, describe future needs in guideline development, and introduce approaches for evaluation and appraisal of guidelines, including the new PANELVIEW tool to evaluate the guideline development process.

SPEAKER: Dr. Wojtek Wiercioch, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Methodologist, McMaster GRADE Centre, McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada.
About the speaker: Dr. Wojtek Wiercioch, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow and research methodologist at the McMaster GRADE Centre in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact at McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada. His main research activities include development of guidelines and systematic reviews in collaboration with various medical professional societies, healthcare organizations and ministries of health, as well as development and evaluation of guideline methods. He is a member of the GRADE Working Group, participating in teaching systematic review and guideline methods. He completed his graduate training in the Health Research Methodology program at McMaster University.
About the TI Methods Speaker Series: The TI Methods Speaker Series are offered free of charge and everyone is welcome. The event is held at noon on the last Wednesday of each month. During the COVID-19 pandemic, while physical distancing measures are in effect, the TI Methods Speaker Series are offered via videoconference.
