Seasonal thanks to intellectual contributors to Therapeutics Letter and Portrait

When our founding Scientific Director Dr. Jim Wright started the Therapeutics Letter in 1994, our goals included relevance to practicing clinicians, accuracy, brevity, and critical analysis of information that was not easily available elsewhere. Over 28 years we may sometimes not have understood where evidence was heading, but we think we have yet to make significant errors when analysing available facts. Fortunately, new evidence often does emerge.

In 2022 we have published 7 issues of the Therapeutics Letter:

On some, work had been mostly completed in 2021. Three more issues of the Therapeutics Letter are already completed (or almost completed) and will be published in 2023. At only two pages in print or PDF, Therapeutics Letter may not look like much work. But it usually reflects months of work by many people, sometimes years or even decades. Each requires careful attention to critical appraisal of randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and pharmacoepidemiologic studies, and sometimes difficult access to unpublished research from databases like Drugs@FDA.

This year we acknowledge people who helped make this happen in 2022. Recognition here does not imply approval of our materials – only our gratitude to those who took time to provide critical feedback. If by accident we left you out, please let us know – we will correct the posting.

Therapeutics Letters are the product of collaborative work by our Drug Assessment, Education, Pharmacoepidemiology and Cochrane Working Groups, so we have never attributed authorship to individuals. But we can list this year’s main contributors below in alphabetical order.

External reviewers and TI members who made particular contributions

Reviewers are volunteers who assist us by clarifying important issues, suggesting additional studies or references, and often by challenging our understanding of issues and our conclusions.  They do not necessarily agree with or endorse our conclusions.

At least 54 reviewers (family and specialist physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, university-based researchers, and patient advocates) reviewed drafts of Therapeutics Letters during 2022. They work at 13 universities and in 7 countries.

If you would like to be invited to review confidential drafts of Therapeutics Letters, please let us know. We require disclosure of conflicts of interest and prefer reviewers who are not conflicted.

TI wishes for better health for all in the world

The UBC Therapeutics Initiative (TI) acknowledges that we work and live on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of multiple Indigenous peoples. We also recognize that human health is inseparable from the recognition of human diversity, respect for human rights, and the avoidance of war. We hope at this winter solstice for a better 2023 for everyone on Earth.
